El hombre acecha al hombre : Escritos periodísticos de guerra (1937-1938)

Miguel Hernández (1910-1942), poet of tragic love and the people's struggle against fascism during the Spanish Civil War, was not only a combatant in the early months of the conflict and a political commissar, but also a war correspondent on the front lines between 1937 and 1938. Therefore, his journalistic work, a brilliant precursor to the "new journalism" of the 1960s and inseparable from his poetic output, constitutes a direct testimony of dramatic events that are often manipulated and trivialized. In contrast to partial historical views and empty novelistic recreations of the Spanish Civil War, "El hombre acecha al hombre" (Man Stalks Man), which for the first time compiles in a complete and annotated form the Hernández journalistic corpus of the war accompanied by original photographs from the period 1936-1939, offers us a privileged, vivid and at the same time painful window into the day-to-day life of a confrontation in which the future of Spain was decided, but also, as was terribly demonstrated between 1939-1945, the destiny of all Europe in a framework of a fight to the death between democracy and totalitarianism.
