El hombre que inventó Manhattan

The man who invented Manhattan was actually named Gerald Ulsrak. He was married and had two daughters. Or perhaps only one. He was born in a small town in the Romanian mountains and had always dreamed of a better place, Manhattan, and a different name, Charlie. He worked maintaining an apartment building and repeated to himself night after night, like a mantra, that the next day would be a good one. On New Year's Day 2002, he was found hanging from a ceiling beam. His suicide sets in motion the narrator, a tenant in the building, who recreates a world where reality and fiction intertwine. Through short stories, sharp as arrows, marked by plays on identity, ironic humor, and unforgettable characters, a mythical city is built: a personal Manhattan, both accurate and imagined, colored by all the literature and film that depict New York City.
