Sicily, 1924. As fascism advances, Nardina longs to study law, but finds herself trapped in an arranged marriage to perpetuate the Cangialosi dynasty. Sabedda, marked by poverty, becomes pregnant by a baron and is unable to care for the child she carries. A mafia-style plot will forever intertwine the fates of these two young women. Sicily, 1960. Carlotta, intelligent and determined, dreams of practicing law, but her era relegates her to the notary's archives. There, a forgotten document reveals a painful accusation: her grandmother claims that her mother didn't give birth to her, but rather bought her. This discovery compels her to unearth the secrets that bind Nardina and Sabedda and to confront the shadows that fascism cast upon her family and her land.
