Under the pretext of building a new cathedral, Bishop Diego Gelmírez burdened Compostela with taxes. Unaware of this, pilgrims arrived in a Compostela torn apart by ambition and threatened by the fanatical Almoravids, eager to cross the Tagus and topple the cross. And yet, the fate of Compostela would not be decided by the crown or the bishop's mitre. The fate of Compostela rested in the hands of a petty thief and a stonemason. The daughter of a goldsmith ruined by Bishop Gelmírez and a hunchback broken by the death of his own daughter. She steals in alleyways and flies across rooftops. He drowns his sorrows in cider and carves demons in stone. Both will be caught in a conspiracy that will change them and Compostela forever.
