Scott Carey’s body is undergoing a strange phenomenon: he is steadily losing weight without actually getting thinner. His scale tells him he is a little lighter each day, regardless of whether he is wearing clothes or how heavy they might be. Castle Rock is a small town where news travels fast, and Scott—wanting to avoid being subjected to tests and experiments—confides his secret only to his friend, Dr. Ellis. However, the mystery of his unusual condition will have unexpected effects on life in the small town and bring out the best in the people around him.
