Deep in the Finnish wilderness, wolves aren't the only creatures that roam the shadowy forests. When the goddess of death attacks her village, Siiri's best friend, Aina, is dragged into Tuonela, the mythical underworld. Determined to rescue her, Siiri embarks on a perilous journey north to seek the help of a legendary shaman, the only person ever to venture into Tuonela and return alive. There's just one problem: legends say the shaman has been dead for a long time. In Tuonela, the cruel Witch Queen turns every moment of Aina's life into a nightmare. But the god of death has even darker plans for her. Desperate to escape, Aina makes a costly pact with him, unaware that Siiri is plotting a rescue as impossible as it is daring.
