Dios sabrá vengarnos

In a migrant workers' settlement at the Lepe cemetery (Huelva), a fire leaves two dead and a perfect suspect: Sabali Idrissi, a young undocumented Moroccan woman, dubbed "the cemetery killer" by the media even before she can give a statement. The case, which seems like a quick fix, ends up in the hands of Inspector Montoya and Lucía Gutiérrez, a former Civil Guard officer expelled from the force, who quickly connect the incident to the son of the progressive candidate for mayor of Seville. An uncomfortable scandal erupts in the middle of the election campaign, and every effort is made to silence it until the municipal elections are held. While Montoya and Gutiérrez repeatedly stumble against the underbelly of power, they find an unexpected ally: television presenter Bruna Pinheiro, who senses in Sabali the story that could revive her career: abuses in the strawberry fields, institutional racism, and police and political corruption. But every minute of screen time comes at a price, and someone will have to pay it. Crime, politics, and spectacle intertwine during an unusual election campaign, coinciding with Seville's April Fair, in a very topical novel about who writes the narrative and who ends up at the stake.
