711 Anno Domini. Plague and famine ravage Spain. Rumors about King Witiza's precarious state of health resonate throughout the kingdom, and the Visigoth aristocracy must meet in Toledo. Fruela, the youngest son of Duke Pedro of Cantabria, will go with his family to the royal urbs and will be forced to reside at the court. There he will have to face a storm of intrigue after the breakdown of the alliance between the two great Gothic lineages. It will be Rodrigo, the Duke of Bética, who will be chosen to wear the crown, but his promise of peace will be cut short by the landing of Táriq ibn Ziyad in Algeciras. Fruela must accompany King Rodrigo to the southern end of the kingdom, where the fate of Spania will be decided.
