Continents are made of beaches and volcanoes, plains and mountains, forests and lakes, but also of stories. This is certainly true of Latin America: storytelling and song form the invisible lifeblood that sustains the culture of the entire continent. From the Sonoran Desert to Patagonia, countless peoples have spent centuries passing down myths and legends that channel beliefs and values, teachings and fears. This collection gathers some of those stories—the most beautiful among them—created by the Incas and the Kayapó, the Mexica and the Yagua, the Seri and the Guaraní... The book begins with several cosmogonic tales and concludes with legends set during the era when Spanish conquistadors first set foot on American soil. The illustrations reinforce this sense of unity while simultaneously reflecting meticulous research.
