In 1968, Tommy Foster disappeared from the Coram House orphanage in Vermont. Some say a nun drowned him; others claim he ran away. The case was never solved. Today, true-crime writer Alex Keeley—in the midst of a creative slump—agrees to investigate the case. Upon arriving in Vermont, she discovers that the past is still alive: witnesses stay silent, clues contradict one another, and people begin to die.
