Comedias y tragedias

In addition to the Interludes, Cervantes wrote eight comedies —The Gallant Spaniard, The House of Jealousy and the Forests of Ardenia, The Baths of Algiers, The Fortunate Ruffian, The Great Sultana Doña Catalina de Oviedo, The Labyrinth of Love, The Entertaining Woman, and Pedro de Urdemalas— and the manuscript pieces The Treaty of Algiers, The Tragedy of Numantia, and The Conquest of Jerusalem by Godofre de Bullón. With his plays, Cervantes sought to explore his own unique art of writing comedies, breaking with many of the conventions of classical theater. His plays are valued today for their originality, irony, and moral depth.
