Te dejo, amor, en prenda el mar

In 1975, Carme Riera burst onto the literary scene with the Catalan edition of her short story collection, *Te dejo, amor, en prenda el mar* (I Leave You, My Love, the Sea as a Pledge), a book that, over the years, has become one of the most emblematic of her narrative work. In all the stories included in this volume, revised by the author for this edition, the sea exerts a decisive power over the characters. Most are women: there are noblewomen, but also peasant women; there are women who accept submission, but others who rebel, and above all, there is a very contemporary treatment of love, completely detached from the conventions of the time. With apparent simplicity and great subtlety, these stories address everyday matters, but also glimpse the extraordinary, displaying both great strength and tenderness.
