Alice Law has always had one goal: to become one of the brightest minds in the field of magic. She has sacrificed everything to try and achieve it: her pride, her health, her love life, and, of course, her sanity. All to work with Professor Jacob Grimes at Cambridge, the greatest magician in the world. Until the professor dies in a magical accident that may have been Alice's fault. Grimes has gone to Hell, and she doesn't hesitate to go after him. Because having a letter of recommendation in her now disembodied hands could be key to her future, and death isn't going to stop her from pursuing her dreams… And her rival, Peter Murdoch, has come to the same conclusion. With nothing to guide them but the stories of Dante and Orpheus, and armed with enough chalk to draw all the pentagrams needed for their spells, plus a burning desire to see all their academic efforts pay off, they set out to explore Hell in search of a man they don't even like. But Hell isn't like it appears in fiction, magic isn't always the answer, and there's something in Alice and Peter's past that could make them the perfect allies… or lead to their downfall.
