In 1942, when the Nazis occupied the Netherlands, thirteen-year-old Anne Frank and her family were forced to flee their home and go into hiding in the cramped "Secret Annex" of the building where her father had his offices in Amsterdam. Along with another Jewish family, the Franks lived isolated from the outside world, enduring hunger, boredom, the strain of living in such a confined space, and the constant fear of being discovered and killed. After two years in hiding, Anne and her family were discovered and deported to different concentration and extermination camps. Otto Frank, Anne's father, was the only one to survive the Holocaust. Despite the harsh conditions and until the moment of her arrest, Anne recorded heartfelt reflections in her Diary that reveal both the strength and the vulnerability of the human spirit. Her writing, at times introspective, at others moving, and even full of humor, reveals a bright and vibrant young woman who, day after day, narrated her deepest feelings and her yearning to become a writer once the war was over. Her testimony is the legacy of a life cut short.
