La estación del crepúsculo

The Sumner family has it all: several farms in a fertile valley, members in every technical and liberal profession who stay connected at family gatherings, and a vast fortune at their disposal. Therefore, when the ecological crisis erupts and famines and epidemics begin, the Sumners can entrench themselves in their valley like a modern-day Noah's Ark, stockpiling technical and human resources to wait for better times while civilization crumbles around them. But not even all their wealth can do anything against one cruel consequence of the catastrophe: all the animals, as well as the men and women, have become sterile. As a desperate measure, the Sumners resort to cloning, initially as a temporary measure until fertility is restored. However, the experiment's success leads to a proliferation of clones until they outnumber the surviving humans. Then an unexpected consequence becomes apparent: the clones not only share high intelligence, but also a quiet form of communication... and the firm determination not to give way to their progenitors, but to replace them as the new dominant species.
