The multiple lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, she's an adjunct professor, diligently grading exams and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of one day securing a permanent position. By night, she supplements her nonexistent salary by offering the services of a fake girlfriend, a job she pulls off successfully thanks to her charm and ability to embody any version of herself a client requires. It's a great job, really... until the Elsie-verse she's painstakingly constructed comes crashing down. Jack Smith, the arrogant and irritatingly attractive brother of her favorite client, turns out to be the heartless experimental physicist who ruined his mentor's career and undermined the reputation of theorists worldwide. And this same Jack Smith, who happens to be the head of the Physics Department at MIT, now stands between Elsie and her dream job. She's ready to launch a war of academic sabotage, but... what are those long, piercing stares? How is it that, when she's with him, she doesn't have to be a different version of herself? Will falling into the orbit of an experimentalist finally get her to put all her theories about love into practice?
