Una verdad incómoda. Testimonio de una época: contra el silencio y la mentira

Un apasionado alegato en defensa de los valores tradicionales que han sostenido el entendimiento, la libertad y la identidad de España y que ahora se cuestionan.
Jaime Mayor Oreja is one of the most prominent Spanish politicians of the last fifty years, and "An Inconvenient Truth" recounts his testimony and experiences —some of them particularly painful and difficult— in Basque, Spanish, and European politics, as well as his current involvement in civil society as head of the Neos Foundation. In the 1980s in the Basque Country, a macabre lie concerning the victims —"he must have done something"— shattered the consciences of a large part of that society. This was followed by the outcome of a political transition in which nationalism played with a stacked deck and imposed a false stalemate between ETA and the rule of law, a stalemate that could only be resolved through political negotiation. In the 1990s, the refounding of the center-right in the People's Party launched an alternative government and a different anti-terrorism policy, based on the law, nothing but the law, but the full force of the law. However, current events surpass all negative predictions, and the existence of the new "popular front" that governs us —that is, the association of the crime of the past with the lie of the present— has built a second black legend from within that demands awareness of it and an understanding between the political forces of the right and center-right to avoid falling into the depths of the abyss in which we find ourselves.
