A faceless voice warns the Romans as a great comet sets the sky ablaze. The prophecy has already been set in motion: far away, the Cimbri march south, led by Artemidorus of Ephesus, who returns to exact revenge on the city that ruined his life. The greatest threat since Hannibal looms over a Rome scarred by the violence of the Ides of January. It is in this setting that Quintus Sertorius grows up. His formative journey will take him from childhood in the upper quarters to adolescence in the alleyways of the Subura and the cemeteries of the Esquiline Hill. There he will lead the small army of the Myrmidons, meet the young assassin Sierpe, and learn the meaning of friendship, sacrifice, and honor. But he will also have enemies. The corrupt senator Servilius Caepio and the underworld boss Septimius will become a personal threat to Sertorius, while the fortune teller Martha pulls the strings from the shadows. Of all those shadows, none is longer than the one cast by the cross of Stigmata, the man with the scars, whose destiny and that of Sertorius are destined to intertwine time and time again.
