Afterwork

After work come the martinis. And the friends. For Alicia, after-work drinks are a balm that soothes the chafing of adult life. In London, where she moved seven years ago to study English literature, everyone knows her as Liz: it's easier to pronounce. Of course, she'd love to be a writer, but aiming high is a privilege reserved for the uneducated, so for now she works writing copy for a startup. She can't stand digital nomads and overtime, but at least there's free kombucha in the office. Like Sisyphus with his rock, Alicia pushes her routine like a punishment. Is there anyone who doesn't constantly feel they should be doing more? However, when she's around a table with her friends, everything seems to make more sense: work, love, ambition, and the fear of wanting too much or of giving up altogether. Between cigarettes and chips, they all share something: the feeling of improvising their journey through adulthood.
