One morning, Karl wakes drenched in sweat to find his street deserted, all the doors open, and the world he knew vanished. As he tries to recover from a devastating fever, visions of his dead loved ones envelop him in an eerie glow. Outside, a sky tinged with red and an impossible moon herald an unseen threat: creatures invisible in normal light silently ravage everything that remains. In his erratic search for meaning and companionship, Karl finds Hayley and Jake, two abandoned children in a candy store, who also survived because they were sick during the so-called "Night of the Bells." As the bond between them strengthens, the need to protect them becomes the new focus of Karl's existence. Together they journey through a depopulated world, tainted by a supernatural atmosphere, where the dead reappear and the living fade into absolute silence. As they make their way toward the coast in search of refuge or other survivors, they must face not only the looming horrors—creatures that emerge with the red light—but also other broken, dangerous humans, or those clinging to delusions. The little girl disappears, abducted by one of them, and Karl embarks on a desperate chase with his older brother, under a sky that grows darker each day.
