Macbeth

The tragedy of Macbeth, a violent and bloody map of human ambition, begins the moment the fateful sisters reveal to him the glorious future that awaits him. Their words seem like a siren song from the depths of hell, a seduction any sensible man would ignore. But when the first prophecy comes true and King Duncan names him Thane of Caudor to reward his intelligence and skill on the battlefield, doubt, greed, and obsession take hold of Macbeth and his avaricious wife. Alongside the magnificent original text, we present the rhythmic version by Agustín García Calvo, one of the most prominent humanists in Spain. It is also accompanied by an introduction by Carol Chillington Rutter, Professor of English Literature at the University of Warwick.
