Police officer Sloan Cooper is shot twice in the line of duty, requiring surgery and nearly resulting in her death. Doctors manage to resuscitate her and save her life. Sloan decides to recuperate with her family in a lakeside town where her parents run several vacation cabins. There, a series of strange disappearances draws Sloan's attention. Clara is a nurse with deep religious beliefs. Twelve years earlier, she had to disconnect her husband from life support after a serious accident. Sloan soon discovers the connection between the missing people: they all had a near-death experience and were resuscitated at the hospital.
