La autora de Gótico presenta una nueva novela protagonizada por tres mujeres, tres épocas y una misma sombra.Â
“When I was young, there were still witches.†That’s how Nana Alba always began the stories she told her granddaughter Minerva. Perhaps that’s why Minerva became a graduate student in horror literature and is now researching the life of Beatrice Tremblay, an enigmatic author of macabre tales. While working on her thesis, Minerva discovers that The Disappearance, Tremblay’s most famous novel, was inspired by real events: decades ago, during the Great Depression, the writer attended the same university as her and became obsessed with her beautiful and otherworldly roommate, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
Thus, the deeper Minerva delves into Tremblay’s manuscript, the more she feels the presence of a dark force that seems to lurk in the halls of the campus. That same unease reminds her of Nana Alba's stories, which told of a terrifying encounter with witches in 1900s Mexico. Soon, Minerva suspects that the shadow that darkened the lives of her grandmother and Tremblay has also reached her, in 1990s Massachusetts. And while an academic career can be exhausting, it becomes deadly when witchcraft enters the picture.
