One afternoon in 1976, Jean and Tom exchange an almost imperceptible glance on the grounds of Compton Manor, a boarding school for troubled teenagers. That glance marks the beginning of a secret intimacy defined as much by violence as by friendship and desire. As the connection between the two boys deepens, so does the risk surrounding it. Jean, who is at the school on a scholarship, is the son of a single mother, Jewish, and the perennial outcast.
