On October 7, 2023, while swimming with friends on a Gaza beach, Atef Abu Saif was caught in a close-range Israeli army attack. What seemed almost commonplace for a Palestinian born in a refugee camp quickly became the bloodiest massacre in Palestinian history. For sixty days, Atef described the nightmare in his diary: the whizzing of missiles against bakeries, schools, and hospitals; visits to his young, mutilated niece in the hospital; the murder of his family, neighbors, and closest friends; the endless queues for flour or water; walks through the devastated landscape of his childhood. A harrowing testimony that opens our eyes to a genocide unfolding in real time before our very eyes, a genocide in which we cannot and will not be complicit.
