First century. Condemned for a heinous crime, Roman officer Lucius Phaedrus is given the perilous mission of tracking down a man everyone talks about but little is known about: Jesus of Nazareth. There is no corner of the Empire where his name is not heard. Some say he is a revolutionary; others, a mere prophet; he claims to be "the Son of God." What is clear is that this man is challenging the power of Rome, and Lucius must unravel the mysteries surrounding him while confronting the shadows of his own past.
