Elizabeth

At fourteen, Elizabeth Cuttner harbors no illusions about the world or herself. Her gaze precisely captures the gruesome details and most intimate miseries of those around her, a fact that proves to be an inescapable curse. After the death of her parents, to which she may not have been entirely uninvolved, her paternal family takes her in at their old Manhattan mansion, surrounded by dark docks, abandoned sheds, and symbols that transfigure into Gothic vestiges resistant to the advance of skyscrapers. There, in an atmosphere steeped in eroticism, murky relationships, and a disturbing violence, this descendant of a generation of witches gradually delves into the art of the supernatural thanks to the apparitions of Frances. Equipped with a small but effective arsenal of mirrors, cats, toads, snakes and spells, an ambiguous charm and ancient wisdom, Elizabeth will ruthlessly use her powers to advance in cold blood towards an affirmation of herself from which nothing and no one can escape.
