Saquen sus muertos

Summer of 1851. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. A cholera epidemic wipes out a fifth of the city's population in just a few months, representing 10% of the island's total. This pandemic isolates the capital from the rest of the world by sea, and a sanitary cordon is established around it. Juan "el Chino," an outcast who has become indispensable to the city's functioning from his privileged position as a healthy individual, recounts how death ravages the city, abandoned after the exodus of all who could afford to leave: the wealthy—a young Galdós, for example, whose family takes refuge on his estate in Valsequillo—and the clergy. Juan's perspective reveals an almost apocalyptic scene, where social strata disappear, simplifying into two: the living and the dead. A world of survival where virtually everyone takes advantage of the power vacuum or the absence of others who might stop them. Against this backdrop unfolds a love story between two characters from different social classes. Here, humanity is stripped of its facade; few retain any semblance of decency.
