In the land of Ingary, where things like seven-league boots and invisibility cloaks exist, being cursed by a witch is not unusual. When the Witch of the Waste transforms Sophie Hatter into an old woman, the young woman leaves the family milliner's shop to seek help in the only magical place she can think of: the moving castle that terrorizes the inhabitants of Market Chipping. For inside dwells not only a fire demon, but also the wicked wizard Howl, as skilled at casting spells as he is at stealing ladies' hearts.
