"My Mother Ignited a Volcano All by Her Own" explores the bond between mother and daughter when mental illness erupts and throws everything into disarray. In its first part, the poetic voice accompanies us from the heart of pain, without disguising the weariness, fatigue, or discomfort involved in caring for and being cared for; but also allowing itself to capture glimpses of beauty, moments of freshness and light that emerge in the darkness of illness. These poems maintain, with tenderness and starkness, that no one can replace the will of the one who suffers. Not even a daughter. In the second part, the collection shifts toward the awareness of loss and the search. This time, the daughter leaves traces of her time in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico: barely audible clues for the mother that represent the desire to connect with women who were victims of femicide in Juárez and in so many other places around the world. Thus, this collection of poems by Diana Agámez combines two intimately linked dimensions: mental health and violence, care and disappearance, tenderness and denunciation. Love and memory.
