Un ácido y agudo retrato de las supuestas virtudes y los muy reales vicios de la sociedad contemporánea.
One night, in the middle of an illegal rave at a Yorkshire country house, a young man is brutally attacked with a gold ingot. What is a radical anarchist group doing there? What connection does the banker who owns the estate have to the events? Who is the attacker and what were his motives? And what is a gold ingot doing there, abandoned as if it had no value whatsoever?
This incident and the questions it raises are the starting point for the report written by Hannah, a young, left-leaning freelance journalist who is struggling to stay afloat. However, the uproar generated by the article—soon adapted into a television series—will change her fortunes, and also those of the famous and controversial conservative columnist Miriam "Lenny" Leonard, opposed to anything that smacks of woke ideology and affirmative action, who is down on her luck after the fiasco of her first book.
Lenny and her son Jake, a suspect in the crime and whose whereabouts are unknown, are mentioned in the report. And a new connection between the two women will soon emerge, because Martin, Hannah's ex-partner, plans to interview the fearsome author at a literary festival: an event that promises to be controversial and from which someone may come out badly hurt.
