Viaje al corazón de un dios

Following the defeat of his father, King Tlatonai, the young Tohualica Motecuzoma and his sister Xipaguazín must travel to the land of the men who have stolen their future. They are under the guard of the nobleman Juan Grau, whom Hernán Cortés has entrusted with escorting them to the court of Charles V—and with the mission of testifying to the King regarding his captain's loyalty. However, lying in wait along the Silver Route are the men of Diego Velázquez—a bitter enemy of the conquistador—forcing Grau to alter their course: they will head instead to his native village of Toloriu, nestled in the mountains near the Pyrenees. There, events take a dramatic turn. First comes the proposed marriage between the nobleman and Xipaguazín—a union viewed with deep disapproval by all—followed by the brutal murder of Fray José, the priest who had accompanied them on their mission. When suspicion falls upon Tohualica, he realizes that solving the mystery is his only chance for survival; otherwise, the Holy Office will subject him to an *auto-da-fé*. For while the Lord’s ways are always inscrutable, sinning against one god can, at times, nonetheless earn you the aid of others.
