Nationalism is resurging with force—from Brexit to Catalan separatism, from Trumpism to Russian irredentism—in a globalized world that, paradoxically, fuels it. Can we possibly establish a political community in any other way? This book explores the causes of the nationalist phenomenon and proposes a version of cosmopolitanism intended to moderate the polarizing effect of illiberal nationalism.
