"I find myself thinking that a book is born of dissatisfaction, of a void, the contours of which reveal themselves during the course of the work and at its conclusion. Writing it is surely a way of filling that void," confesses the narrator of *Café Kubista*—the story that opens *Exploradores del abismo*—as he walks through Prague. Like him, the protagonists of these subtly interconnected stories are ordinary people whose attitude toward the world is that of a tightrope walker: moving forward along the precipice and making the unknown their sole objective.
