La educación soviética

In the summer of 1980, just days before the opening ceremony of the famous Olympic Games—boycotted by numerous countries following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan—Liza Klein and her mother leave Moscow for a three-day getaway to the countryside. But even this brief vacation offers the young woman no respite from the strict upbringing imposed by her protective, aristocratic mother. Through the relationship between these two characters, the author revisits forgotten places to reconstruct the past: what does it mean to have been born and raised in the Soviet Union? What did that "education" consist of, and to what extent was it, despite everything, truly Soviet—the education instilled in their offspring by the elites born of the thaw?
