Taxi

“We need to talk,” Lola tells her husband during breakfast. He replies that they’ll do it at night, after his shift in the taxi. Sandino is a melancholic man, hesitant to return home because he fears that Lola, fed up with his infidelities, will leave him. He’s not entirely sure if he wants that to happen, just as he doesn’t know if he likes being a taxi driver, if he’s capable of loving someone, or if it’s all just about continuing to roll and crash, like a ball on a pool table called Barcelona. For seven days and six nights, Sandino roams the streets and neighborhoods like a broken doll fleeing from himself, a predator wandering aimlessly, from place to place, always at the whim of the customer, boredom, or the opportunity to cauterize the wound in the most carnal way. And as his peculiar odyssey unfolds, the stories of passengers, friends, and enemies mingle and intertwine in his mind—a tangle of memories and ghosts of the past that paint an existential map of his life, the life of the city, and the characters who inhabit it. Perhaps in this way, in his flight toward nothingness, Sandino will manage to free himself from his shackles, his illegitimate loves, and the environment that binds him, to reach some place he has never been.
