Constantinopla 1453 : El último gran asedio

Straddling Asia and Europe, Constantinople was one of the world's most legendary cities. Founded by Constantine the Great and serving as the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire—and subsequently its successor, the Byzantine Empire—it managed to halt the momentum of Arab conquests during the early days of Islam, becoming an obsession for Muslims ever since. In the 15th century, a new wave of Islamic invaders battered at its gates. These were the Ottomans, led by the young Sultan Mehmed II—a man who aspired to transform the Ottoman Empire into a global power. To this end, he assembled a formidable army to besiege the walls of Constantinople, deploying—for the first time in a major siege—a devastating new weapon: artillery. Opposing him, Constantine XI led the city's defenders—a diverse, multinational group—in a heroic resistance against an enemy that vastly outnumbered them and possessed superior technical resources.
