Montse worked in a nursing home. Juan left home at fourteen. Ignacio left Argentina for better job opportunities. Anabel was abandoned when she was three months old. Andrés came from Colombia in search of a better life. Pedro was a waiter in a Barcelona restaurant. What unites their stories is that they all live on the streets or have lived on them at some point in their lives. With this book, we want to explain what it's like to live on the streets and what can drive a person to it. We want to raise awareness of the violence, abandonment, and loneliness; the loss of self-esteem, dignity, and hope that people living on the streets experience. And we also want to find out if it's possible to escape homelessness, how to do it, and why it's so difficult. Two women and four men without a decent home tell us what their lives were like before; why they lost the homes they lived in, and what their lives on the streets are like now. These are stories full of pain and injustice, but also of solidarity and forgiveness.
