Elantris

Welcome to the city of Elantris, the powerful and beautiful capital of Arelon, known as "the city of the gods." Once a renowned seat of immortals, a place brimming with potent magic, Elantris has fallen into disgrace. Now it shelters only the newly "living dead," trapped in an unbearable "unlife" after a mysterious and terrible transformation. A political marriage intended to unite the kingdoms of Arelon and Teod is thwarted when the groom, Raoden, the prince of Arelon, unexpectedly undergoes the Transformation, becoming one of the "living dead" and forced to seek refuge in Elantris. His new wife, Princess Sarene of Teod, believing him dead, is compelled to integrate into life in Arelon and its new capital, Kae.
