Diario alfabético

For nearly a decade, Sheila Heti recorded over half a million words in her diaries—capturing her daily life, thoughts, loves and hates, settled judgments, and fleeting ideas. She then decided to transfer all those sentences into Excel spreadsheets, rearrange them alphabetically, and strip away the superfluous ones. The result is *Alphabetical Diaries*, a brilliant literary experiment in which the author appears and disappears amidst her obsessions and voids: the frequency with which she mentions a friend, the absence of certain terms and the constant repetition of others, and what a love story is reduced to when the simple chronological narrative is removed.
