Mirabeau o el político : Escritos políticos II (1920-1930)

The 1920s were marked by the momentary and tense European stability of the interwar period, and in Spain by the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. Ortega y Gasset responded extensively in the newly founded newspaper "El Sol" to the unfolding of the new regime during these years of his intellectual maturity, especially with "Mirabeau or the Politician," later published as a book in Revista de Occidente in 1927. This work exemplifies the biographical essay genre he developed with figures from crucial historical generations, such as Goethe and Velázquez, to problematize their role as models of contemporary life. In the case of the French politician, he begins with the definition of a vital "archetype," before exploring the politician's consistency. This edition includes the essays written between 1920 and 1930 in which he interprets political issues from a sufficient distance to lay the theoretical groundwork for renewed political participation, which would indeed occur in the following decade with the Group in the Service of the Republic.
