Misión de la Universidad y otros ensayos

The origin of the book "Mission of the University" lies in a lecture given by Ortega on October 9, 1930, in the Paraninfo of the Central University of Madrid, at the invitation of the University Student Federation. Since the acoustics prevented him from delivering his lecture in its entirety, he decided to publish the notes prepared for the lecture a few days later in "El Sol," in a series of seven articles, between October 12 and November 9, with the title he would retain when compiling them into the monograph, published in December of that year by Revista de Occidente. He originally prefaced the articles with a dedication to the student group and the opening words of his address at the University, entitled "Temple for Reform," which we include as appendices to the work, along with the portion of the manuscript prepared for the lecture that is the initial version of the book's first chapter. We accompany this edition with his essays on education and pedagogy, written between 1906 and 1953.
