Eight-year-old Phoebe lies in a coma after a car accident. Her mother, Ceres, sits by her bedside in the hospital, reading her the fairy tales Phoebe loved, hoping they will help bring her back to life. But that hope is hard to hold onto, very hard. And just as Ceres's faith begins to waver, an old house on the hospital grounds comes into focus, a property connected to a book written by a mysterious, vanished author. A strange force compels Ceres to enter the house and journey to a place of fantasy: a land colored by her childhood memories and her father's beloved folklore, a land of witches and dryads, giants and mandrakes; a land where old enemies—and perhaps friends—watch and wait. The land of lost things.
