The Oberst factory, renowned for the exquisite wallpapers that adorn France’s most elegant homes, is a place shrouded in mystery. Its most unsettling enigma is the woman depicted in every one of its patterns—rumored to be the late Madame Oberst, who died under suspicious circumstances. When sisters Lara and Sofi arrive to work there, they soon strike up a friendship with Josef Oberst, the factory’s heir—a young man deeply affected by his mother’s absence. While Sofi is swept up in revolutionary fervor, Lara finds herself drawn into both the heart of the Oberst family and the life of the factory, thanks to her talent and beauty.
