Preston and Constance Whittier have built a happy life together and raised six children in their beautiful Manhattan mansion. Now, with the nest almost empty, it's easier than ever for them to maintain their traditional "winter honeymoon," a romantic ski trip for two. But this year's trip brings tragedy, and suddenly the Whittier children find themselves reunited in the family home without their parents for the first time in their lives. The eldest, Lyle, is going through a rough patch in his marriage and must decide if divorce would be best for him and his two children. Gloria's demanding job on Wall Street hasn't left her time to find a partner, and at thirty-nine, she feels lonely. The twins, Caroline and Charlie, share an apartment and a struggling fashion business. Benjie, who has special needs, and Annabelle, still in college and seemingly losing control of her life, are the only ones still living in the family home. The four older siblings are forced to put aside their personal problems and grief to keep the family together and support each other. Selling the house would be another devastating loss. Is there an alternative, however unconventional it may seem?
