El otro mundo

Summer of 1933. A small group of students and teachers arrives in Neveros, a remote village in the Alpujarra region, sent by the government of the Second Republic to carry out one of its most ambitious cultural projects: the Pedagogical Missions. Through these missions, the government aims to bring to the peasants an immense cultural heritage to which they have never had access—music, theater, poetry, art… In sessions filled with magic, they will introduce them to cinema and its astonishing projections; they will offer talks on their rights and duties as citizens of the Republic; and they will leave them with the enduring legacy of a library of books and shellac records. With great effort, the travelers will win the complicity and enthusiasm of the villagers, especially the children; but also the hostility and distrust of those who see their ideas, beliefs, and traditional way of life threatened…
