A serial killer is burning his victims alive. There are no clues at the crime scenes, and the police have lost all hope. When his name is found on the charred remains of the third victim, Washington Poe, a disgraced and suspended detective, is called in to take over the investigation, a case he wants nothing to do with. He reluctantly accepts Tily Bradshaw, a brilliant but socially awkward civilian analyst, as his new partner. Soon, the pair uncover a clue only he could see. The dangerous killer has a plan, and for some reason, Poe is part of it. As the body count continues to rise, Poe discovers he knows far more about the case than he ever imagined. And in a terrifying finale that will shatter everything he thought he knew about himself, Poe will learn that there are things far worse than being burned alive.
