A profile of El Salvador's authoritarian leader, the most popular president in the Americas in the last decade: Nayib Bukele. Sarcastic when appropriate and with a clear focus on narrative, Óscar Martínez portrays the dictator in seven chapters, each centered around a revealing scene. Since 2020, the author has directed Elfaro.net, the Salvadoran media outlet most targeted by Bukele since he came to power: he has coordinated investigations that have uncovered dozens of cases of corruption, massive human rights violations, and criminal pacts that permeate his entire government. The book was written during his first six months in exile, due to arrest warrants issued against him for his journalistic work.
