Sara returns home after attending a conference abroad, only to be detained at the airport by agents from the Risk Assessment Administration. An algorithm, fed by data harvested from her dreams, has determined that she poses an imminent threat to the person she loves most: her husband. Although she has committed no crime, she is required to spend twenty-one days in a detention center until her risk rating returns to an acceptable level. What initially appears to be a temporary measure soon reveals its true nature. Failure to comply with rules that are as strict as they are ever-changing prolongs her stay, while separation from her family, uncertainty, and the system’s relentless logic close in around her. When suspicion outweighs facts, regaining one’s freedom no longer depends solely on one’s own actions.
