Kamran Esfahani, a Persian-Jewish dentist from Stockholm, dreams of starting over in California. To fund his new life, he agrees to spy for the Mossad after being recruited by Arik Glitzman, the head of a clandestine unit tasked with carrying out targeted killings and acts of sabotage in Iran. Following Glitzman’s instructions, Kam returns to his native Tehran and opens a dental clinic, using it as a cover for the Israeli intelligence agency. He soon proves to be a highly skilled asset, quietly making money while helping Glitzman smuggle weapons, conduct surveillance operations, and carry out abductions. But when Kam attempts to recruit an Iranian widow seeking to avenge her husband’s death at the hands of the Mossad, the operation goes disastrously wrong. Captured by Iranian security forces, he is forced to confess his activities as a spy—a testimony that touches not only on national security but also on revenge, deception, and the power of love and forgiveness in a world of lies.
